Hi, I'm Megan.

Me Personally

Albus Dumbledore said, "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live." Thanks to Professor Dumbledore (and J.K. Rowling), I have become a firm believer that we should live each day to its fullest. Dreaming is great- I also believe that you should dream until your dream comes true. In order to get where you want to in life, you have to do more than just dream. I have learned through experience that life has unexpected twists and turns and it's best to do them all with a smile. This is something that I love to instill in my students. What it the point of learning if you don't enjoy it?

When I first read Harry Potter as a child, my mind was blown. A part of my brain was tapped into that had never been before. My imagination went wild and my creativity came with it. Before reading Harry Potter, I didn't enjoy reading. I enjoyed school, but not to learn. Ever since, I have wanted to read every book and learn everything that I could.

This is what I want to accomplish in my life. I want to share my love of learning, imagination and creativity with everyone I meet. To stay true to that, I constantly learn new things in my own life. Recently I have been studying and practicing yoga. I also have been working towards becoming a cycle instructor. Keeping a healthy lifestyle has helped me keep a positive outlook on life.  I also love reading and made the New Year's Resolution to read 100 books in 2015! I also am a movie junkie and I love watching movies any chance that I get.

Since we are only given a short time on earth, I have every intention of discovering as much as I can about it. Although I have not traveled too much yet, I enjoy traveling and exploring new places. I would love to make it to all 50 states and all 7 continents (I'll be okay with 6 if I can't make it to Antarctica!).

To me living means to learn, grow, and evolve. I plan on doing this every day of my life  journey.

Me Professionally

When I arrived at freshman orientation at Michigan State University, I was 17 years old and was told to pick what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was at a loss. I decided to go with Zoology with aspirations to go to the College of Veterinay Medicine. When my sophomore year rolled around, I realized that I was unhappy. When visiting my parents for the weekend I went into our basement and rediscoverd my "classroom." There was a giant dry erase board on the wall. Inspirational posters were hung. Piles of books and workbook pages were organized in plastic containers. It hit me like a ton of bricks: I want to be a teacher.

After starting my education classes, I became more positive, my GPA increased and I looked forward to going to class for the first time. I graduated from Michigan State University in the Spring of 2011 with a Bachelor's degree in Education. I continued with my science focus and Integrated Sciences became my teaching major. Going to school to become a teacher was the best decision I ever made.

After graduation, I studied abroad in Australia and completed my internship year in Mount Clemens, Michigan. I was then given the opportunity to teach 5th grade at Collier Elementary in Avondale, AZ. I absolutely loved teaching 5th grade and it felt great to be a part of a school community. I learned so much about who I was as a teacher and a professional. My second year teaching, my school district provided my students with 1:1 laptops. This chance to integrate technology in everything that we did was an amazing experience for me and my students. I learned so much about how to use technology in every subject.

Leaving Arizona and moving back to Michigan was not an easy choice for me. After two great years at Collier, I missed Michigan and my family and made the move back home. Since my move, I have been guest teaching in quite a few Metro-Detroit area schools. I have also been growing professionally through finishing my Master's degree and keeping up to date on what's happening in education.

I look forward to what's to come on my teaching journey!
