My Teaching Philosophy

Throughout my few short years of teaching experience I have learned so much about myself as a person and as a teacher. My passion for teaching has grown throughout my life and stems from my want to guide each one of my students to discover their highest potential. As a teacher, it is my job to help my students explore and discover this unlimited potential. To ensure this discovery, my students need to feel safe and welcomed in the classroom. I strive to create a classroom community that not only makes my students feel safe, but challenges them.

Some of the main ways I love to tap into my students potential is through personal connections, hands-on learning and higher- order thinking. I always enjoy asking my students, "What makes you say that?" and "Why do you say that?" It has been in my experience that students who are given the opportunity to learn through connection and higher-order thinking will develop a deeper understanding and increase their motivation to learn. Not only does it create curiosity, it allows students to question and discuss with their classmates. Student-driven discussion keeps students curious and involved in the classroom. It deepens their content understanding through their own questioning and discovery.

Every classroom is made of a group of diverse learners. As each individual student's teacher, it is my responsiblity to teach to their specific needs. Differentiation is embedded throughout all areas of my classroom community. Including my students interests, backgrounds and strengths engages them in active learning and allows them to take ownership of their education. An effective teacher accomodates all students' needs. I will always strive to be a highly effective teacher who encourages and achieves student growth. There is no greater joy then seeing a student grow in your classroom. Being a teacher is an important profession. I have the ability to mold student's minds and prepare them for the rest of their lives. It is my goal to help all students reach their highest potential by creating a secure and student driven classroom for them to thrive in.
